About me

My name is Tony Martin and I am an LCSW-R in private practice in New York City.  I began my psychotherapy career as a staff therapist at IHI Therapy Center, which has provided affirmative psychotherapy to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals since 1973.  I also worked as an Interfaith and Interspiritual educator at One Spirit Learning Alliance, a ground-breaking education and professional training institute that integrates the ancient wisdom of the world’s sacred traditions with modern psychology to develop a new generation of spiritual leaders.  Prior to becoming a full-time psychotherapist, I worked for 25 years in the nonprofit and for-profit sectors as an administrative, fundraising and human resources professional.

I earned my master’s degree in clinical social work from the University of Georgia and since that time I have pursued specialized training in the treatment of trauma.  This has included a two-year training program at the Manhattan Institute for Psychoanalysis in treatment for adults with early-life trauma.  My undergraduate degree is in theater from Minnesota State University near Fargo, North Dakota.
